Yes, you read it right: instead of stealing art from a museum, an artist has managed to smuggle her art inside renowned museums and present it there!
Judith Grote is often referred to as the enfant terrible of the contemporary German art scene and her rising career has seen several remarkable successes to date. Her colorful works of art, most of them sculptures, photographs and paintings, were on show at exhibitions in Germany and abroad and her originals rate rather high.
Her "Art Attack" activities, however, shook the foundations of the art market. Without any doubt, the "Louvre coup" was the highlight of these events. With the help of her "accomplices", she smuggled her sculpture "Der Halt" (The Stop) into the world renowned museum! She does her bit for posterity, which keeps the media busy. But that’s not all – she usually supplies the suitable self-serving hype, too! Once inside a museum, the pieces are put together as quickly and inconspicuously as possible, and suddenly the museum owns one more "Grote"! At the Pinakotek der Moderne in Munich her work even stayed overnight because the museum management only noticed the expansion the following day. The Museum Ludwig in Cologne was the proud owner of an original Judith Grote sculpture for a short time, as well.
Her stunts challenge the art world and are supposed to encourage people to ponder the subject of who exactly it is that selects the art seen in our museums.
