The ARNO Art Award 2007
Time flies, and so did this last year. Our jury members could hardly believe that the time had once again come for them to browse the entries for the ARNO Art Award. And there was a vast amount of artwork to be evaluated in the different categories within the course of one weekend. Several hundred works of art, sent by artists from all corners of the world, had arrived at our editor's office and were to be assessed. The process has changed, however: in the past, we used to get together in a relaxed atmosphere, arm ourselves with an assessment form and a mug of coffee, and wander around tables with the artwork on display. Today, most entries arrive on digital media - CD, DVD or media sticks - and so our jury members were facing several computer monitors where the artwork of the different categories was presented as a slide show.
The ARNO Art Award 2007 was offered in five categories. Just as in the previous years, there were "illustration", "digital illustration", "visual art", and "digital imaging" along with a new addition: "custom painting" which has become increasingly popular again recently and got an impressive response immediately.
To prevent your bursting from curiosity, we now present the winners:
Illustration, Andreas Veith (D)
Digital Illustration, Kurt Miller (USA)
Custom Painting, Bernhard Laschober (A)
Visual Art, Chris Oberheber (A)
Digital Imaging, Kurt Miller (USA)
5 categories, 4 winners, and still every participant of this competition may consider him/herself as a winner. We have seen an overwhelming amount of good artwork and discovered many new talents. However, there can only be one participant to win the trophy, even though the decision was quite hard sometimes and very tight in many cases.
